always on the grind!

woww it's been forever since I've blogged! I had every intention of keeping up with it, too...yeahhh right. Last night while laying in bed trying to fall alseep my husband suddently asked, 'Hey, how's your blog babe'? and BAM: that was the first time I had thought about my blog in months. So, I guess it's time for a quick update on our life here in Annapolis!

We still aren't fans of Annapolis. However, the people we meet help us to love it just a little more each and every day :) We have continued to meet many great couples at church, as well as some friends from work and nearby military instillations. Our beagles even have friends! It doesn't hurt to have some family close, either-we have been to western Virginia three times now to see my family and get a away for a few days. They have come to see us, too!

Work for Travis is the same. He is still working hard, trying to open his heart to why he's here and what God wants him to accomplish during his time on shore duty. He went underway for the month of June to N and S Carolina, and will be in Boston from mid-July through August. Summer is flying by! He is toying with the idea of furthering his diesel or automotive education this year in the evenings, but for now is still planning on starting getting back into his bachelor's degree once fall starts. We will see! Pray for him :)

I still love my job! It is the hardest, most stressful thing I've ever done, and I surely have never been this busy, but I know that I'm really making a difference in these individuals' lives, not to mention gaining some great experience in the field. My plan is to hold the job for a year, and then see where life takes me. I'm currently working with adults, but would love some more time with senior citizens in the near future. Only God knows what the future holds! I will say that we are enjoying being able to ues the second income to bulk up our savings while we are childless, get out and see some things, and further the Kingdom. We really are living the life, and need to be more aware of our blessings each and every day.

It's very hot here! I hear that it's just as hot back home, too, stay cool guys! We had a horrid storm last Friday that knocked out our power for four days. Fortunately we live on the lowest level and our apartment didn't get too hot without air conditioning. I was a sore sight at church and work without hot water or electricity, but we made out just fine, if not even better than we were before as our eyes were opened once again to how blessed we are. We had to eat out, throw out all of our food, and spend our weekend at the movies and malls, but we had the means to do it all....last year, that wouldn't have been the case.

This weekend we are going back to Virginia Beach (our first home together!) to see some of Travis' friends from his old command before they get out of the Navy this month and move back to their home states. Travis is very excited to have some male interaction, and I cannot wait to hit the beach, it's been far too long! The weekend away came at a convienent time, too: our truck is due for an inspection this month and our vehicles (except my work car) are all still registered in Virginia since we will move back there in early 2015.

I hope you are all doing well. I hate being so far away and missing weddings, time with friends and familys, etc, but our life is good here. Be Blessed!

that 9-5 thing...

'If you remain in Me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.'  - John 15:7

So just a tidbit of info on this newest blessing in my life, my job! I have searched and searched for a decent job in the area so that I could get some more experience on my resume before we PCS/have kids/whatever we decide to do, and God has definately delivered. A great job, in my field, with great people! And of course my husband likes coming home to an empty house for a couple of hours each day... ;)

As of a few days ago, I've been working as a Mental Health Associate for Care Connection in Odenton, MD. The company operates multiple branches in neighboring counties as well, but I work out of the Odenton branch in Anne Arundel county, and my case load is the eastern region, primarily Annapolis, Glen Burnie and Crofton. Not bad!

I'm still training of course, as each state has different protocols, uses a different code of ethics, is licensed differently, etc. The hardest part for me so far has been switching from the MN healthcare system to the MD healthcare system and how it bills for and allows for mental health rehabilitation. whew! crazy stuff.

It's exciting! I have a large, diverse case load, a great group of individuals. This is honestly THE job that I wanted, so I couldn't be happier. Let's just hope I love it at much as I think I will ;) But, hey, even if I don't, one benefit to military life is that Annapolis isn't forever...

weiner dogs for the weekend

Such a fun weekend! Kim took Jay to a pool tournament for his Birthday Weekend, so Travis and I got to watch their weiner dogs :)
cuties, huh? Barney loved having Makayla and Murphy sleep over. Not only are their mommy and daddy blessings to us in Maryland, but having extra dogs around makes us smile, too! They really loved cuddling with Travis :)
I also cleaned out my closet this weekend! Along with other spring cleaning. One of the best parts of this apartment is my large walk-in closet, so I thought it would be smart to clean it up and make it functional enough to get some use out of. Here's the finished result! Now there's even room for more clothes ;)




Bought some shoe racks and hangers and went to work!
Travis has duty today so he'll be at work until tomorrow night, and I'm going to a cookware party with some friends tonight, then doing some homework I'm sure. The weather is lovely in Annapolis this weekend, mid-80s, so we'll be outside enjoying that, too! Be blessed my friends.

Wow! These are our 'memory verses' for church this week (brings you back to Sunday School, eh?), and I felt led to blog on them. Such strong scripture!
In Paul's accounts, he discusses being content in any situation. Today at Centerpoint, Paster Donnie detailed the biblical meaning of contentment. It's not being comfortable, it's not aquiring 'x' number of things until you are content, it's not getting raises until you reach an income with which you feel content. When Paul said he was content, he meant that with Jesus, he could be content in ANY situation, BECAUSE of Jesus. Paul was sitting in a cold, desolate jail cell, but through Jesus, he was fully content. Anything he asked for was just to make him more comfortable, but he noted with his request, 'it's okay either way, because I am content'.

Crazy thoughts! This really hit home for hubs and I today as we struggle daily with why God is keeping us in Annapolis (transfers/changes denied, so He must have a plan, right?). This morning I was so stuck on why we are here and on finding out what that is, but two things have since shifted my focus. First, I heard a quote on the radio this morning as I drove to base to pick Travis up for church:

'In our human-ness, it is hard to remember that God sees the bigger picture'

This stopped me in my tracks. Of course I don't need to worry about why we are here, I don't need to keep asking God for a billboard with directions, because HE sees the bigger picture, HE has a plan, and because of this I don't need to concern myself with it! Such a good feeling. Second, Pastor Donnie's message today:

-what Travis and I are supposed to be focusing on, then, is being content.

We are to learn to be content wherever God might send us, in whatever situation. Such a simple request of Him, yet so hard for us to understand and then fulfill!

So this is what we will be up to, friends. We will strive to be content here in Annapolis; not comfortable here, not content with our home and our things and jobs here. Those are all important, but those are BLESSINGS from Him. Before all of that, we must be content here, as Jesus is with us, has a plan, and has our VERY best interests in mind. Have faith, and be blessed my friends!

March in Review

March was crazy for us here in Annapolis: you've probably noticed my lack of blog posts. I promise I'll start keeping up with the blog, but for now, here's the month in review :)

The month started off with a visit from Aunt Nell and Uncle Nabin! They came to attend Mark Gungor's 'Laugh Your Way' Marriage Conference with us, which was amazing. I think Travis' favorite workshops were 'Why does she do the things she does' and 'How her brain works', and I loved 'How to stay married and not kill each other'. It was really fun to have our first houseguests and of course we love seeing Nell and Nabin! We have Mark's DVD collection in case any of you'd like to borrow it; it's for single people, too.

The next weekend was St. Patrick's day! We spent the day downtown Annapolis with Kim and Jay, sampling some beers and Irish food. We figured out we like Coors Light and wings better than Guinness and Irish Bangers ;)

Then came Coley!!!! Nicole came to stay with us for a week, and with her came Yuri for a few days, too, a blast from my Morris past! Lots of fun in downtown and Annapolis, some shopping, and lots of beer and fun food.

Right after dropping Coley off at the airport in DC, Travis and I hopped on the subway and made the trip back into DC for the MN Wild/Capitals game! Super fun, even though the Wild lost..have to continue our tradition of following MN sports teams to their opposing stadiums whenever we can.

He's coming out of his shell more and more each day, it's so fun. He's loving the warmer temperatures as they mean more trips to the dog park.

Our House is Now a Home.

Over the past month and a half we have been slowly putting our house together as all of our belongings arrived and we aquired some more stuff. It's still a work in progress, but we thought we'd show you all around our apartment :)

Please excuse the blank walls, we are still trying to figure out how to hang up all of our stuff while staying within the apartment complex's strict guidelines! We also have some wall decals on the way, and some projects we are in the middle of! :)
